A family of four was rescued after getting lost in the Peruvian jungle for 34 days. The mother and her three children were making their way back to their home after visiting relatives when the unimaginable happened.
They got lost somewhere on the Peru-Colombia border, inside the thick forest but surprisingly, they survived for 34 days before getting help. After a month of wandering, they came across an indigenous people who informed the authorities, and then, help was sent.
According to the BBC, they had to eat survival plants, including wild berries and seeds, plus other plants. Luckily, water was available to supplement the new wild diet. The four were found in bad shape; malnourished, with stings and bites as well as cuts on their feet.
One of the things that helped them manage the over a month ordeal in the jungle is the survival skills, probably of the mother. She was able to identify edible plants that they could survive on and luckily, none of them was poisonous.
The four were later taken to hospital where tests were done to find out if they had contracted any mosquito-borne diseases such as yellow fever and malaria.
